Hearthstone to get new play format and a much requested feature

by on February 3, 2016

Blizzard just announced changes that will be coming to Hearthstone in Spring. There’s a new format and multiple tweaks and changes across the board.

Firstly, Play Mode will now be split up into Standard and Wild. Standard is available in Friendly, Ranked, and Casual play modes. Standard for 2016, the Year of the Kraken will allow you to play using every set of cards barring Goblins vs Gnomes and Naxxramus. Standard mode is a welcome change and makes the game more accessible to newcomers who now won’t need to go through every set of cards from a long time ago. Wild is the new name for the format everyone is already playing right now that covers all sets of cards and covers the Arena mode as well.

One of the most requested features from fans has been the addition of new deck slots and when this new format goes live, players who have unlocked all 9 heroes will have 18 total deck slots instead of 9.

Hearthstone’s new format and the changes are set to go live in Spring. You can read more about the changes on the official blog here. Ben Brode, the lead designer, spoke about the new modes and their thought process here.

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is available on PC, iOS, and Android.
