SWTOR-Was-Right-to-Go-Free-to-Play-Says-SOEBioware’s decision to take The Old Republic free-to-play has been backed by Sony Online Entertainment President, John Smedley.

During a Reddit Q&A event, Smedley stated he thinks free-to-play will soon be the only option for all PC games:

It is the only way to go for new games. It was the right decision for SWTOR (which is a fantastic game). Wait till you see our next round of games after Planetside 2.

Smedley also said he thinks PC gamers are moving away from retail in favour of the free-to-play model:

I hate it when people talk about the decline of the PC industry. It’s idiotic garbage spouted by morons that can’t count where the players are playing. It’s not like League of Legends reports numbers to NPD. The players are playing F2P games on the PC not going to retail.

Do you agree with John Smedley? Will The Old Republic going free-to-play encourage to you to give it a go?
