PlayStation announces a revamp for the TV & Video section on PS4

by on June 28, 2017

Sony has launched a refreshed version of the PS4’s TV and Video section, and it’s a little bit…..hrmmmmmm.

The idea is a sound one, all the content from all the apps in one place with you not having to keep flicking in and out of them to find the content you want, except, it doesn’t quite work like that. Currently the screen collates trending content across the range of apps, and selecting an item then takes you through to said app. According to some investigation on NEOGAF there’s also no universal search across the selection.

Basically what this appears to be is another screen within which you need to navigate through to get to the app you wanted to use. Not really the best implementation. It’s worth noting how the iterative approach to UI has worked since the launches of the Xbox One and PS4, so it’s likely that this will be improved upon over time, but right now it appears to be more of an irritant than a cross app solution.

The service update is available now in Australia, Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. If you want more info you can find it over on the PS Blog.
