Rumour: Respawn Game to be Next Gen Xbox Exclusive?

by on April 30, 2013

Respawn Entertainment’s highly-anticipated first game is set to be a Microsoft exclusive according to a report from Kotaku.

Two “unrelated sources familiar with the game” claim it will be exclusive to the Xbox 360 and Microsoft’s follow-up console which is set to be announced on May 21st.

If the rumours prove true then we should expect to see the game for the first time at that show as well.

One of the sources, who it should be said does not work at Respawn, went on to describe the game as a “battle of Davids and Goliaths” in which foot soldiers are pitted  against enormous mechs called Titans which are also controlled by players.

The description falls in line with reports from a fortnight ago that Respawn had trademarked the term Titan. These giant mechs reportedly “move with an agility not seen in games like Mechwarrior or Steel Battalion”.

It is still possible that the game could only be a timed-exclusive for Microsoft but it would remain a big coup for the company ahead of the release of its new console later this year.

The game will be published by EA, who Respawn are affiliated with, but the game itself is allegedly made using a modified version of Valve’s source engine.

The Kotaku report also says that the game will be always online, and multiplayer will support 16 players but would include bots to flesh out the experience and offer more opportunities for players to get kills and progress. “The Respawn game’s multiplayer will operate on a grand scale,” reads the report. “With players picking between two massive factions and with all of their experience in the game counting toward the progress of their faction.”
