David Fincher and Tim Miller to Create the Halo 4 Launch TrailerDrafting A-list stars in to provide voice-overs games is nothing new these days; Liam Neeson in Fallout 3, Tom Wilkinson in Sleeping Dogs, Susan Sarandon in Dishonored… The list goes on and on, but it’s rare to see A-list directors and film-makers getting involved.

Well, 343 Industries are pushing the boat out in that direction it seems, hiring Hollywood’s David Fincher (Fight Club, Se7en, The Social Network) and Tim Miller (the visual effects supremo who made Scott Pilgrim Versus the World watchable) to create the launch trailer for Halo 4.

The return of the Master Chief and Cortana is a momentous occasion in of itself, but publishers Microsoft seem determined to make it something extra special – not least because November is one of the most Triple-A packed months ever.

The extended two minute trailer, filmed in Prague and entitled “Scanned”, looks at the history of the Master Chief, and will make its premier during the October 18th episode of US TV show, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Miller, who recently worked with David Fincher on the English-language version of Stieg Larsson’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, says of the collaberation: “I’m excited about the opportunity to direct the Halo 4 launch trailer in creative partnership with 343 Industries and David Fincher. Halo is one of the most iconic sci-fi universes, with a depth that allows for amazingly cinematic and emotionally riveting stories. The chance to tell a story that explores never-before-seen facets of Master Chief’s journey is an honor. Our goal is to deliver a blockbuster, Hollywood-quality trailer that raises the bar for the award-winning legacy of live-action Halo storytelling and gets fans stoked for the return of Master Chief.”

343 Industries’ franchise development director, Frank O’Connor, said that the studio is “incredibly excited” to work with Fincher and Miller, adding that “Their involvement is a testament to the significance of Halo as a pop culture touchstone, and we think fans are going to be blown away when they see the final piece.”

Halo 4 is being developed by 343 Industries exclusively for Xbox 360, and will launch worldwide on November 6th.
