Sim City "Disasters 101: Protection and Prevention" TrailerIt’s not an easy life being the Mayor of Sim City. Not only do you have to worry about taxes, crime, pollution, transport, traffic congestion and your own fluctuating popularity, but also the fact that your fledgling metropolis apparently sits in some kind of natural disaster hot-zone where literally any calamity imaginable can occur.

This new trailer for the upcoming Sim City remake from EA and Maxis gives you hints and tips about how to plan for and prevent major catastrophes like earthquakes, meteor strikes and mass alien abductions. From organising your fire department to maintaining a healthy police force and network of high-grade hospitals to clearing up the rubble afterwards, you’ll have your work cut out for you every step of the way.

As with spin off The Sims, half the fun of Sim City is the unpredictability factor; you can micromanage all you like but, ultimately, you never know exactly what’s around the corner. Well, this rather brilliant video might just help future Mayors prepare for any eventuality. Safety first, and all that.

Sim City is being developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts. It is currently scheduled for a February 2013 release.
