Ultra Street Fighter IV Seeing PS4 Release

by on December 6, 2014

With news that Ultra Street Fighter IV will receive a definitive next-gen release on PS4, Playstation continues to assert itself as the console to own for fans of Capcom’s premier fighting franchise.

This news comes hot on the heels of yesterday’s Street Fighter V leak, where it was revealed that the game would be a console exclusive on Playstation 4, alongside a release on PC.

This version of Ultra Street Fighter IV will include all the game’s content released to date, including character costumes and the soon to be released Omega mode.

This news is particularly interesting as it shows that Capcom is eager to keep Street Fighter IV alive, even with Street Fighter V around the corner.

Street Fighter V does seem to be bringing some drastic mechanical adjustments to the series, with features such as guard breaks and a re-working of Street Fighter IV’s Ultra mechanic potentially spotted in released footage, so Street Fighter IV may continue to offer a fundamentally unique (and as of now, supposedly complete) fighting experience.

This is normally the case, as can be seen with Street Fighter III; the game still has a devout community after all these years due to its mechanical differences from the other games in the Street Fighter line.

What’s arguably more interesting is the titles appearance on Playstation 4 alone (though the PC version of Ultra is still available). Microsoft still has Killer Instinct, which is a fantastic game, but Street Fighter certainly has the superior legacy. This is an interesting situation, and it will be curious to see how the Street Fighter continues over the coming years.
