PS Vita to Receive Price Cut in Japan

by on February 18, 2013

PS-Vita-Japanese-Price-CutSony Computer Entertainment Japan president Hiroshi Kawano has gone on record today staying that the Vita will see a substantial price cut in Japan on February 28th.

With this week quickly turning into international hug a PlayStation week, SCEJ president Hiroshi Kawano cranked up the hug-love with the announcement of a price cut for its gaming handheld. From February 29th, our Japanese friends will be able to bag a Vita, in either Wi-fi or 3G flavours, for 19,980 Yen, that’s about £140. Why anyone would choose the Wi-Fi only model when the 3G option is the same price, is beyond us.

As yet, there is no word from Sony Computer Entertainment as to whether the US or EU will be getting a similar price cut, but here’s hoping we hear something along those lines at Sony’s big event on February 20th, which has been built up to be the PS4’s big reveal date. Does this news indicate that a new Vita model is on the cards? Perhaps, perhaps. At any rate, we only have two days to find out.

Mr Kawano also revealed that new Vita buyers in Japan will get a 7-day free trial of the excellent PS-Plus service, which included Uncharted, Ridge Racer and other free titles during March. If we do indeed get a similar price drop in the UK, the Vita will suddenly be looking a whole lot more appealing.

Stay tuned to GodisaGeek as we’ll have all the juicy details from Sony’s press conference on February 20th.
