The App Store’s most malleable hero is set to make a triumphant return tomorrow as HotGen releases To-Fu 2 worldwide – but anyone who’s missed out on one of the most inventive action puzzlers of recent times can download the original for free for a limited time.

To-Fu: The Trials of Chi introduced the eponymous hero and his unique mode of transport (officially known as a ‘Ping’). Originally released in May this year, the game has proved to be immensely popular, with an average user review score of 4.5 – and with over 800,000 downloads to date, that’s a lot of people who can’t be wrong.

The original game is now available for free, for a limited time. With over 100 brain-busting levels to tackle, there’s a lot of game in there – but nothing compared to the wealth of new options available in the sequel.

To-Fu 2 will be available worldwide for iOS devices (Universal App) this Thursday. The game introduces additional puzzle mechanics, making it a challenge of reaction and lateral thinking. With a new game mode – such as The finger-quivering time trial – and a shedload of new ways to customise your hero, it’s a real step forward from the original, delivering a satisfying fillet of action puzzling for those who have snacked on the original.

“To-Fu is as fun to play as it was to design,” says Terry Haynes, MD, HotGen. “I think it’s fair to say we’ve made the sequel as much for our own benefit as our players’. The additional elements add so much to the original’s premise whilst retaining the purity that made The Trials of Chi such an App Store darling. It’s by far the meatiest To-Fu yet.”

New features in To-Fu 2:

  • 100 extra levels
  • Rotating rebound platforms
  • Rebounding crumbling blocks
  • Time Trial Mode
  • GC achievements and Leaderboard
  • In-game store
  • Costumes
  • Themes
  • Unlock all levels
  • Golden To-Fu

To-Fu 2 will be available for iPod touch, iPhone and iPad, as a universal app, from the App Store tomorrow, priced 69p ($0.99). To-Fu: The Trials of Chi is available from the App Store now, free for a limited time.
