Spiders Drop New Screens for Mars War Logs

Spiders Drop New Screens for Mars War LogsSpiders Games have revealed a handful of new screenshots for their Mad Max-style, Mars-set action-RPG, Mars War Logs.

Mars tends to get a short shrift in video games and movies these days. In fact, if such entertainment mediums are to be believed, when humanity eventually colonises the Red Planet our advancement won’t lead to a deeper understanding of our place in the solar system or a new world to explore and in which to create new wonders, but to calamity, war, dangerous alien technology and, quite possibly, a gateway directly to Hell.

The latest vision of Mars from Spiders Games and Focus Home Interactive continues the trend of an inhospitable sci-fi wasteland in their upcoming action-RPG Mars War Logs, presenting a dystopian, cyberpunk world in which everyone is at war with everyone else over the dwindling water supply. It’s not terribly original, but there are a few promising elements in MWL that have us at least intrigued.

Firstly, there’s the fact that your decisions as the spectacularly-named protagonist Roy Temperance can influence the world and alter the course of the game; secondly, there’s a potentially robust class system promising “extensive character customisation through different skill trees”; and thirdly, an in-depth crafting system that will help you maintain an edge during the real-time combat.

Given Spiders’ involvement with last year’s surprisingly decent Of Orcs and Men – and the fact that they were free of the influence of Cyanide Studios during the development of this game – there’s a good chance that they’ll produce a fairly enjoyable role-playing game come Spring.
