Far Cry The Wild Expedition is a £29.99 retail release that includes Far Cry 2, Far Cry 3, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and the original Far Cry Classic that started it all. It will be released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
This will be the first time that Far Cry Classic, an HD ‘revamp’ of the first Far Cry title, will be available for the system. As well as being featured in The Wild Expedition you’ll also be able to buy Classic as a standalone digital title for £7.99.
Far Cry Classic features stunningly realistic foliage, real-time day and night cycles, drivable underwater and flying vehicles which you can commandeer, and more (so says the press release).
It’s worth pointing out that there was a Far Cry title available for the Xbox in the form of Far Cry Instincts, but this game was a (wait for it) far cry from the original PC title. Ho ho.
Less about the big environments and more about setting up traps and using funky powers, Far Cry 2 was the game that really explored whether a truly open Far Cry title could work on console. And it did, with itself and subsequent titles (3 and Blood Dragon) proving to be excellent. It will be great to see Far Cry sit alongside them on the one platform.
Far Cry is an excellent series, and this is a great invitation to get a feel for the diverse franchise if you haven’t already, or revisit it if you’ve not played them for a while. Seriously, the value of these games at that price is just beyond generous. Shame there’s no next gen version, I bet those oceans would look stunning.
