God is a Geek visits Capcom

by on August 3, 2009

As mentioned in episode 2 of our podcast, last week the God is a Geek team were invited down to the Capcom offices in London by Mr Leo Tan (Capcom UK PR Manager) to play some Street Fighter IV against him and some of his Capcom friends. As part of our team we also had two members from ntsc-uk forums, fuse and billy_dimashq, because as the phrase goes “strength in numbers”…..or so we thought!

Just like the good old arcade days eh?!

Now myself, Aryel and Calvin are what you could call Street Fighter IV “n00bs” so we basically got our backsides handed to us. These Capcom guys were proper Street Fighter IV players and the fact that we were no where near their level of skill had no impact on them, they showed no sympathy whatsoever! As always we like to look at the bright side of things and we can proudly say that none of us “n00bs” got perfected once. Now we do have one Street Fighter IV “pro” on our team and he goes by the name of Aaron. He did alot better than us, I think he got one victory (maybe two, I’m sure he will correct me) but that was when no one was watching his match. You see Aaron doesn’t like the pressure, infact he totally buckles under it and this was also true on this ocassion. However I guess he did fly the God is a Geek flag and got a moral victory for the team. The other two gents that joined us from ntsc-uk forums (fuse and billy_dimashq) did pretty well, infact fuse beat all members of the Capcom team apart from one. The guy he didn’t beat was rather good though and you can tell he was a Street Fighter IV nut.

Overall it was a top evening as we got to play some Street Fighter IV, talk about games in general and meet some genuinely cool/interesting people at Capcom. We shall continue to keep in contact with Mr Leo Tan and hopefully bring you some more news/general gossip regarding Capcom games. In the mean time have a look at some quality video footage which was taken at the session.
